Two New Shows Around The Corner!

These are exciting times, as I prepare for two major shows this coming autumn!

I am thrilled to announce that I will have a new solo show at the Chehalem Cultural Center here in Newberg. The CCC has worked for nearly two decades to complete the second floor of their arts center, and this September the dream has finally come to completion! It has been such an exciting process for me to watch (as one of the art teacher at the CCC for nearly 4 years now). I am beyond honored to have been invited to be the first artist to show in the CCC’s brand new gallery space! With so many walls to fill, this space has allowed me to bring all of the largest paintings I have created thus far in my artistic career. How exciting! This new show, “The Essence Of Oregon,” features oil paintings of our beautiful state - Oregon. I have traveled all over the world, yet I keep coming back home for the majority of my painting inspiration. In Oregon we have everything! From mountains, to deserts, beaches, vineyards and more. This show will be up on September 3rd and will continue to be on display through January of 2025 - so there is plenty of time to come in and enjoy the new work!

Here is one of my new pieces that I created especially for this show : “Fawn Lilies” - 48”x60” - Oil on Canvas.

The second major show is coming up in October - the Art Harvest Studio Tour! This is my first year participating in this show, and I am again so honored to say that the Chehalem Cultural Center is also hosting me for this event! Come and see me October 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th between 10am and 5pm.

For this event, I will be setting up a studio space at the CCC where I will be painting live, showing and selling small works, as well as new greeting cards and calendars. It is a stroke of luck that “The Essence Of Oregon” show will be up at the same time! So, if you would like to see a rather large collection of paintings all in one place, these are the shows for you. I would love to see you!

As we head in to autumn I am looking forward to sharing my work with you, as well as start up a new round of classes! These classes at the CCC will start on October 1st. If you would like to read more about my 3 upcoming classes (both watercolor and oils) check out the Cultural Center’s website here: https://www.chehalemculturalcenter.org/adult-classes

I send this note to you with much gratitude in my heart, for all of you who have been with me along this exciting artistic journey. Your support and encouragement has meant the world to me!

Feel free to send me an email with any questions or comments! I always love hearing from you.

Wishing each of you a great rest of your summer,

Christine Joy

A Grateful Artist

Today there is a taste of fall in the air as we get our first good rain since May.

With fall season comes many good things this year - new classes and a new show!

All of my new classes are posted up on the Chehalem Cultural Center’s website (https://www.chehalemculturalcenter.org/adult-classes) and there are still spots available in each class as of today! This October I will start three new classes: watercolor, oil painting, and drawing. These classes will run for 4 weeks as usual, where I will give a demonstration for the first half of class and then the second half will be for the students to create. Teaching at the CCC has been one of the highlights of my life these last 2+ years. It has been so wonderful to see how much excitement there is for the arts here in the Yamhill County. I am so grateful to each student who has taken a class from me - each of you make my life as an artist, not only possible, but so much fun! Classes will continue to run through the “school” year, so if you miss this first round of classes there will be many more great ones to come.

I am so excited for the upcoming show at Art Elements Gallery with Sarah Joy Silva. Sarah is a dear friend of mine, and was my longest housemate of more than 7 years! Even after moving this last year, art is something that brings our friendship together. I am pleased to be in a feature show with her this coming October through December! I have been working hard on a new body of work for this show - all of these paintings will be showcasing (in my opinion) some of the best parts of the Willamette Valley here in Oregon. I will have a few new paintings from my Golden Hour Series as well as some florals and other Pacific Northwest landscapes. There will be an artist reception on November 11th from 2-4pm at the gallery and I would love to see you there and hear your thoughts on the show! For more information on the show you can check out https://www.artelementsgallery.com .

This summer I have spent much of my time traveling to the UK and Montana (two absolutely beautiful/entirely different landscapes) and having blast! However, I am consistently pulled back to my Oregon home. Every time I leave I realize more and more - I love this little part of the world! I love the Cascade Mountains, the lush vegetation, the days out in my kayak on the Willamette River, and I love teaching summer plein air watercolor classes to my amazing students. I am looking forward to getting to spend more time at home in my studio as the seasons change as well. So many paintings and other good things to come!

We will be using all of the Covid-19 safety precautions and will have small classes of 8 people maximum in a nice large classroom. And of course, masks will be required.

After a year of so much creating happening in solitude, I am so excited to make artwork with you! Please send me an email if you have any questions.

March 9th through April 24th I will be showing my paintings I have created in this last year at Art Elements Gallery! This was my most prolific year of painting to date, creating more than 50 works. In this show, called "Creations In Solitude," I will be displaying some of my most favorite paintings from this new body of work. I am so excited to share with you what I have been up to!

As you may have noticed, it has been a while since I have been able to write to you all! I have been able to keep myself busy in this year of pandemic by painting. gardening, and planning my new classes. But may I just say this, I have missed you! I have missed getting to participate in shows, teach, and talk with you about art and life. With the new art show, the classes, and springtime coming our way, I am full of hope for the future!

All the best to you,

Christine Joy
